This writing assignment requires you to meet three objectives:
Respond to a course reading with a written response
State and support your position on an issue
Paraphrase information from scholarly sources into your writing without accidentally plagiarizing.
• Read one, short article
• Answer a question about that article that requires you to think critically about the information in the article
• Your written response should be:
• One page (typed and double-spaced; indented paragraphs)
• Free of grammatical errors
• Present a clear main idea • Use paraphrased information from the article to support your main idea (see paraphrasing information posted elsewhere in this module)
This was one of our reading assignments this week. Article can be obtained from the reference book ″They Say, I Say″ Chapter 4
Writing Prompt:
As everything from advances in technology to COVID-19 change what and how Americans read, the American public library must adapt if it is to serve its community in a relevant and productive manner. Clearly present your position on the role, if any, the public library should serve as the United States moves through the third decade of the 21st century. Use evidence from credible sources (see sources below) to support your position and develop your argument. Instructions:
1. Brainstorm and Plan:
Read through the sources linked below, as needed, in order to develop your position on the role of the public library.
Create a brief outline that clearly states your position and 3 or more main ideas that support/develop that position Review the sources again to find evidence to support your main ideas. Use bullet points to briefly list 2-3 pieces of evidence for each main idea
2. Review Technical Criteria:
Do NOT use direct quotes. ONLY paraphrase the evidence from the outside sources. Why?
Direct quotes are rarely used in social science writing.
One objective of this assignment is to demonstrate your ability to paraphrase.
Review the criteria on the grading rubric posted below
You MAY use credible sources other than the ones posted below, but it is neither required nor expected. If you do add a source, be sure to include it on the References page.
3. Draft your Paper:
Be sure to cite the sources you use, as you integrate them into your writing in the body of your paper. At the end of your paper, add a heading that says Feedback Applied. Briefly state where and how you addressed the feedback from Writing Assignments 1 and 2 in this assignment.
4. References:
Include only the sources you used in your paper at the end of your document. Delete any sources you did not use.
Copy and paste the sources to the end of your document
Be sure the references begin at the top of a new page.
The document is formatted in Calibri 12. Change the font type and size to the ones you used in your paper.
5. Proofread and Revise Proofread your paper and revise accordingly. Note: Papers with high similarity scores that indicate plagiarism will NOT be accepted.
Be sure your paper is in Word or PDF format
6. Submit both your position paper and your outline!

Read the following articles listed below. Write down your reaction to each and discuss your thoughts on the fairness of the rulings of each and how they pertain to teachers’ freedom of speech. Consider the impact of the Pickering Ruling ie. Pickering Test for public employees freedom of speech. ( one page)

The Pickering Connick test takes its name from two public employee free speech decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court. … The test asks if the employee spoke on matters of public concern, and if the free speech rights of the government employee outweighs the interest in a disruptive-free workplace.

The first two links are short video clips I added to help with your understanding on the court cases.
