4) Make any necessary or suggested changes to your handout after reviewing the feedback you received from your Learning Partners.
5) Design a short survey to share with your handout for families. The purpose of your survey is to help you determine if families found your handout helpful or not.
6) Share your handout and survey with families. Collect feedback if you can, and use that feedback to help you plan future activities and learning experiences.
7) Reflect upon this assignment and prior assignments. How do they help students with learning outcomes? How do they help with family engagement? Write a one-page reflection paper.
8) Upload your survey, handout, and reflection paper here for grading.

Write a one paragraph response that answers these questions:

In a well-written paragraph (5 sentence minimum), explain/answer the following:
* Imagine this scenario: You’re the teacher in a preschool classroom. A parent whose child will be going to kindergarten next year shares with you that he is worried that his child doesn’t know how to add and subtract yet. He tells you that he’s been working with his child at home doing addition and subtraction problems such as 2+3=? or 6-3=? but that his child needs more practice. He asks if you could do these types of worksheets in school. Think about how you would respond to this parent. Write a one paragraph response that answers these questions:
How would you explain your perspective about appropriate pre-k math while respecting his perspective?
What activities could you suggest he do with his child at home to prepare for kindergarten math that would be more developmentally appropriate than doing worksheets with arithmetic equations?

Would other theoretical frameworks be more useful?

You will be expected to provide a critical evaluation of an article published after December 2017 which is not otherwise assigned for this course. The article should be a research study, not a literature review or conceptual essay. The article should focus on college students and be from one of the following journals:
Research in Higher Education
Journal of Higher Education
Review of Higher Education
Journal of College Student Development
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice
As you critique this article, areas to emphasize include:
Literature Review: What are the main theoretical frameworks used? Are they compatible with the research question? Would other theoretical frameworks be more useful?
Research methods: What is the research question? What subquestions exist? What research method was used to address these questions?
Results: Highlight the most compelling findings in the results. You can use graphical depictions (tables, figures, charts) to make this easier to describe. What interested you, and why?
Discussion: What are the important points discussed? What implications for further research or for practice do you see here? Does this address the research question and the theoretical framework described earlier in the article? Is this a credible part of the ongoing research-based conversation about this topic?
