“ What makes you a perfect candidate for (school name)? Why are you interested in the major you are applying to? We’d like you to tell us in an essay. This is your chance to tell us more about your experiences, activities and accomplishments. Enter your essay in the space below. (No more than 750 words, please.). “ I’m transferring to the spring semester to this school from community college. I’ve applied previously and got in after being waitlisted but had to turn down the offer due to financial reasons and I felt I wasn’t ready. I previously had an essay that I will attach here and I need it to look similar but changed to fit “why I am transferring” “Why this is my dream school and that I’m now ready” and how during this time I’ve been learning more about the fashion industry and volunteering abroad in Turkey. I also would like to add that I traveled to london for 2 weeks to learn about the fashion culture/scene and made great connections in understanding the industry more. I need it to use the same format and this essay is almost like bragging about your experiences etc. I also do not mind if you add some more “volunteering experience” as long as it sounds believable. I’d like to update the volunteering in turkey to add that I recently came back again from being in turkey for 2 months and that I volunteered again at the same place as well as a womens shelter. I also want to add that I’m a big advocate for climate change and how the fashion industry really effects this seeing it firsthand again in turkey and how it’s worsened since my last visit. This is the previous essay: The renowned Academy Award-winning American costume designer, Edith Head, once asserted that one can have anything they want in life if they dress for it. While veering on hyperbole, there is an underlying value in this statement. Fashion is not simply the aesthetic expression of a society and its culture. It is more than the outcome of a desire to appear trendy and in sync. At a psychological level, fashion allows us to tell our stories to the world in a manner that captures the essence of who we are. One could argue that it is the most versatile expression of liberty; for it gives us an opportunity to carve out a unique sense of identity and being in a world of billions. Most importantly, fashion gives everyone a chance to be visible irrespective of their lot in life, thereby affirming that basic principle that everyone matters. This fundamental realization animates my desire to create meaningful impact in the world of fashion. Of my gifts, my artistic ability is the one I treasure the most. I have always had an eye for the aesthetic spaces of life. While some may think that such an artistic gift entails an ability to identify gems and shine a spotlight on them, I beg to differ. It is my belief that having an artistic eye indicates the ability to look at common-place items and working on them with rarefied grace to elevate them to the hallowed leagues of the esoteric. It is looking at a common vase and thinking about how to transform it into a vessel that tells a unique story about the owner; or re-imagining the way in which an article of clothing is designed to bring out the unique personality of the wearer. In my view, therefore, the essence of art is transformation. Growing up in a small town in Texas, it seemed illogical to pursue an artistic career. My socialization on the home front, in so far as career aspirations were concerned, primarily revolved around making good grades and getting into a ‘conventional’ profession; one with a seemingly steady income and a fancy title to boot. However, the aesthetic calling kept gnawing at my insides to the point where it became irresistible. I was bubbling with creativity and needed to bless the world with my ideas. To this end, I began to put pen to paper as I took advanced art classes. The culmination of this endeavor of love has been the acquisition of a versatile artistic skillset. In addition to jewelry, I develop bespoke paintings while also experimenting with physical art such as filmmaking and photography. As a future fashion leader, I keenly follow the design maestros of the fashion world. These include Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing, and Jacquemus’s Simon Porte. I am especially taken in by the Parisian minimalist style embraced by Jacquemus. It aligns with my idea of a clean and fresh playful approach that exacts a minimal toll on the environment. Having worked as a volunteer in a thrift store for Syrian refugees in Turkey, I am deeply acquainted with the adverse sustainability impact of fast fashion and the injustices it breeds. I was exposed to how contemporary fashion houses generate humongous amounts of waste every year as the volumes of fast fashion items they produce end up in landfills in poorer regions of the world. The pollution that emanates from textile processing serves to compound the problem. Moreover, workers are exploited even as they are compelled to subsist on less than livable wages. In view of the foregoing, I aspire to reconfigure the fashion business model; to align it with the sustainability imperative while still maintaining the aesthetic value of it. To do this, I need to be apprised of the supply chain dynamics underlying fashion production. I also need to be conversant with the demand dynamics that rule the market and how to manage them sustainably. Moreover, it is essential that I expose myself to the operational nitty gritties of the fashion business if I am to develop the kind of savvy required to transform my creative ideas into products that create meaningful Impact. Given (school name) firm scholarly foundation and its esteemed faculty, I believe it is best-placed to propel me in the direction of my dreams. Its strategic location in New York also holds the promise of extensive networking; the kind that I need to develop insightful perspectives into the global fashion business.
